Support when times get tough

Many people have found themselves facing financial difficulty due to the coronavirus pandemic and have few options to get them through the coming months. Turn2us is a national charity that helps people when times get tough and provides financial support to help get them back on track.

Over the past month alone, Turn2Us has seen a huge rise in demand for its services across Manchester, Leeds and Doncaster so to help these communities where many of our people live and work we’re donating £200,000 to help people in financial crisis as part of our DLG Community Fund.

Our donation to the Turn2us Coronavirus Grant Fund will help to improve the lives of hundreds of people living in these cities by providing them with cash grants that enable them to buy essentials such as food without having to get into debt. It will also provide them with access to practical help and information about welfare benefits and charitable grants through an accessible website and a freephone helpline.

Thomas Lawson, Chief Executive at Turn2us, said: "Even before the coronavirus pandemic hit, there were 14 million of us living in poverty across the UK. Now, with the country in lockdown and people’s lives and livelihoods at risk, there’s even more of us – millions more – who are facing financial crisis and who are struggling to get by.

“Direct Line Group’s generosity is testament to its commitment to communities and people thriving. With this donation, Turn2us can provide hundreds of crisis grants so people affected by the coronavirus pandemic are still able to put food on the table and avoid spiralling into the vice-like grip of debt. On behalf of the people for whom we exist, we offer our sincerest thanks to the whole team involved in making this donation possible.”
