Direct Line Group (DLG) is encouraging its people to go greener by introducing a new employee benefit that reduces the cost of leasing a brand new electric or plug in hybrid car. Thanks to tax efficiencies the salary sacrifice scheme reduces the cost for an individual to run a vehicle with fewer carbon emissions. Additionally every employee that signs up to the scheme will get a free 12 month subscription to Zoom EV, which is the electric vehicle offer available to new Direct Line customers since October*. The Zoom EV bundle offers cheaper access to public charging, money off home chargers and more.

The Group already offers its employees interest free season ticket loans if they want to use public transport or a Cycle to Work scheme for those who want to use a bicycle for their commute. 

The new scheme is part of the Group’s contribution to tackling climate change which this year has seen the insurer sign up to the Race to Zero, begin implementing a Supply Chain Sustainability Programme to engage and influence suppliers and commence trialling the use of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) to power the rescue recovery trucks at its Birmingham Auto Services site.

Employees choosing this benefit will pay a monthly operating charge by way of salary sacrifice which covers the financing, service, maintenance, insurance and road tax of the vehicle over the length of the contract.

The benefit is available to colleagues who have been at DLG for 12 months or more.

• procured 100% renewable electricity for its operations since 2014.
• diverted 100% of our office waste from landfill.
