Community Spirit leads to Local Charity Heroes receiving £5k for helping flood victims in Warrington

Direct Line Group has donated £5000 to local charity Warrington Disability Partnership in recognition of their support, generosity and kindness towards residents impacted by Storm Christoph earlier this year.

The combination of Storm Christoph and continuous torrential rain caused the Sankey Brook in Warrington to overflow, resulting in the evacuation of many residents living in the area. Quick to respond were Warrington Disability Partnership who knocked on residents’ doors, offering hot food and drinks, cleaning products and generally providing much-needed support.

Direct Line Group became aware of the Partnership because so many customers mentioned their support while discussing their claims with the insurer.

Aaron Spink, Technical Claims Manager at Direct Line Group said,

“While dealing with the claims from residents, a number of them mentioned how brilliant the Warrington Disability Partnership had been. It’s really unusual that people in the same street all say the same thing so obviously the group had been outstanding.

“I knew DLG’s Community Fund was all about supporting our customers and their communities and the Partnership seemed like they really deserved a thank you so I nominated them for a grant.  I couldn’t have been more pleased when I heard we would be giving them five thousand pounds”.

Dave Thompson, CEO at Warrington Disability Partnership commented,

“We were completely amazed and are so grateful for this kind donation. The timing couldn’t have been any better, as this year, our 30th anniversary, has been very difficult financially, and we are predicting next year to be equally difficult as the confidence of our clients recovers.

“As you can imagine, our team of predominantly disabled people, are very proud to have been able to support the local community, especially as a charity, we are usually the recipients of community support, so it was nice to give something back to them and support the rescue and clean-up workers”.

Notes for editors:

The Direct Line Group Community Fund was established in April 2020 to support charities who were helping people struggling through the impact of Covid-19. In 2020 the fund donated £3.5M and will be donating a further £1.5m to various charitable initiatives in 2021.

The £5000 donation will go towards helping Warrington Disability Partnership’s continued effort to develop and deliver their aim to support disabled people and people living with long term health conditions in the community.

Direct Line Group have formed a dedicated team to manage the household claims and continue to work with these customers on this localised event. The most vulnerable customers have been identified and moved to safe accommodation and repairs for all properties will be staggered throughout March with the priority of getting people back into their homes as quickly as possible.
