Green Flag helps drivers get back on the road by offering free Vehicle Health Checks

  • Green Flag launches thousands of free vehicle health checks in anticipation of more drivers returning to the roads
  • From 27th July, all drivers can register for a check at their local garage, whether they are customers of Green Flag or not
  • The 10-point health checks will inspect brake condition, battery health, tyre pressure and more to help keep drivers safe this summer

With a number of vehicles across the UK having sat parked during the Covid-19 lockdown, breakdown provider Green Flag has announced the launch of thousands of free vehicle health checks to help get Brits back behind the wheel.

Available nationwide from 27th July, the Vehicle Health Check will be open not just to Green Flag customers, but to all drivers, to help keep roads as safe as possible following lockdown restrictions continuing to ease.

Research conducted by Green Flag found that since lockdown, almost a third (32 per cent) of Brits are considering buying either a new or used car in a bid to avoid public transport. With more drivers on the road, it’s crucial that drivers are keeping their vehicles in a roadworthy state to minimise any potential risk.

With 6,000 checks on offer across the UK, drivers need simply visit the Green Flag Blog, which will direct them to the Who Can Fix My Car Portal, and enter their postcode to search local garages conducting the checks, before selecting a suitable time.

Working with Who Can Fix My Car, Green Flag’s vehicle health check will cover:

  • Tyre tread depth
  • Tyre pressure
  • Oil level
  • Water level
  • Washer fluid
  • Battery health
  • Wiper blade condition
  • Brake condition
  • Lights
  • Bodywork corrosion

Mark Newberry, Commercial Director at Green Flag said: “We’re pleased to be able offer these free Vehicle Health Checks. Having provided this to our customers in the first instance, it was important for us to extend this service making it accessible for all.

“Green Flag want to make sure it is playing its part to help drivers feel as safe as possible as they look to get back behind the wheel, and it builds on the work we have done supporting the NHS during COVID-19 keeping them safe with free Rescues.

“The Covid-19 lockdown has meant many vehicles that would have otherwise been running every day, have been used very little, if at all. This can be extremely detrimental to the battery and other parts of the vehicle, that’s why we’re offering this service free of charge - we want to ensure the nation is safe and protected as we look to move into this next phase of normality.”

One free vehicle health check is available per household to UK mainland customers and will be valid until 30th September 2020. Green Flag’s vehicle health check service is free of charge; however the owner of the vehicle will be responsible for any repairs required from the check.
