KidsOut - one year on
KidsOut is the only national charity that focuses on the needs of children staying in refuges after fleeing domestic abuse. During the pandemic, they lost more than £400,000 from cancelled fundraising events. Having worked with them for a number of years, DLG used money from its Community Fund to help Kids Out and bring a little bit of fun and happiness back into the lives of the children living in refuges.
Direct Line Group launched its Community Fund at the start of the pandemic to support charities who needed immediate donations like KidsOut
To find out how our donation has helped the charity over the last year we spoke to some of the people from KidsOut.
Gordon Moulds, CEO said,
““Direct Line Group and its employees have just been phenomenal in helping the charity which has done more during the pandemic than it’s ever done in its life. We’ve given out over 20k food vouchers as well as over 17,000 toy boxes.”
Melissa, a family support worker from one of the refuges commented,
During this lockdown it was the toy boxes that were so appreciated because we couldn’t take the children out and do activities as normal. It was so amazing to see the look on the children’s faces when they got the toys. It took them out of that boredom, the isolation and it also helped them to settle as some children were very shy and don’t want to talk. They isolate themselves, but when you have this gift, they join in and the gift has a wonderful impact on the children.”

Volunteers from Direct Line Group have been providing further support by making calls to each of the refuges to identify their internet and WIFI requirements.
This year we’ve made a further £100,000 donation to KidsOut which will go towards 2,500 fun days for mothers and children living in the refuge houses*.
