Build Back Better

As a Group we’ve set a vision to be a force for good. We know that Covid-19 has had an impact on our society and as a responsible business we are committed to playing our part in supporting the communities who need the most help. This is why Direct Line Group has teamed up with Business in the Community (BITC) to support their Build Back Better campaign. BITC is the largest and most established business-led membership organisation dedicated to responsible business in the UK.

At the outset of the COVID-19, BITC responded by establishing the National Business Response Network. Its mission is simple - match business resources to community needs in the right place, at the right time. The network has connected thousands of national and local community groups, small businesses, local authorities and charities with businesses and brands who continue to provide support.

There is now the opportunity to assess how business can establish a lasting legacy in tackling some of the biggest challenges facing society today, many of which have become more pressing as a result of Covid-19. Climate change, skills, social mobility, diversity and inclusion are just some of the issues that are topical. It points to a broader question of what the role of business should be after the pandemic passes.

Since lockdown started many businesses have had to change the way they operate and BITC want to use their Build Back Better campaign to explore and define a set of actions that can shape the business community’s response based on this experience.

The first phase of the campaign will see a series of virtual events and discussions that will gather learnings and insights from the last few months. One to one interviews with businesses and thought leaders will be led by BITCs experts, along with a survey aimed at business and sustainability managers.

The findings and campaign actions will be published in September to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly in New York. BITC will then mobilise members to work with businesses and government to embed lasting change.

Direct Line Group is delighted to be partnering with BITC‘s Build Back Better campaign. By playing a prominent role in the campaign we hope to use our experience in driving lasting change that will be a force for good for years to come.
