Direct Line Group welcomes Autonomous Vehicle Act

25.07.18

Direct Line Group welcomes the Autonomous Vehicle Act receiving royal assent.

Neil Ingram ACII, Head of Motor Product Management, Direct Line Group, said:

“Having a regulatory framework in place so we can plan for automated vehicles coming onto our roads in 2021 is an important step for the insurance industry. Creating a framework to determine which vehicles will be classified as autonomous will give insurers, manufacturers and consumers, confidence for the future.

“We have dedicated considerable time to help shape the Government's approach knowing that rapid technological change presents fresh challenges for insurers. This is why we are excited about our partnerships with Volkswagen Insurance Services and PSA Finance UK as well as our collaboration with Tesla, MOVE_UK and StreetWise. This will give Direct Line Group a deeper understanding of automated driving systems and their impact on liability and claims well ahead of these vehicles coming onto UK roads.”
